The Washington Squares were a deliberate throwback to the days of earnest, politically oriented folk groups like Peter, Paul & Mary, even though they formed 20 years after the peak of the folk boom..

A review under their "Fair And Square" album also talks about 2 tracks being 'redacted' (omitted) from that original album. My best guess is that, on this album, the two tracks that are missing were noted as having different publishing companies than the remaining 8 tracks which are available here, so it looks like they were not able to obtain /5(5).

The Squares resurrect boldly sung 60s folk/pop harmonies and try to reinvoke the political spirit that went with them on such songs as "New Generation" and "You Are Not Alone." Such an ambition can't really be realized 20 years later, but in the meantime, the music is stirring.9/

The Washington Squares transplanted Eisenhower/JFK-era folk into the Regan/Thatcher era. Sadly, it failed to take. The material and artistry were certainly there, but they never achieved the attention they deserved in the era of MTV bands/5(4).
